Level 5/6 sketchbooks

I really like how loose this painting is but how it still gives a beautiful overall effect. I guess it is done with palette knives.

This is a very simplistic image but the thin line drawing and the yellow works well-especially as they all cross over and aren't perfect.

I think this is a beautiful illustration. The water colour and biro pen is very effective . It seems like it was a peaceful place and this illustration captures the thoughtfulness.

I like that these are simple line drawings. The stronger lines draw the eye in and effectively are an effective focus for their fashion illustration. I think the limited pastel colours work very well and each person in the image has a character.

These sketches reminded me of 2 Blanche-Noir art nouveau postcards I have. I really like the effect they produced for the fur coat. The black and white I think is very glamorous.

Although this is a very minimalistic drawing, I thought it was rather quirky. It captures the different walking 'gate' that these people have. I think the line is very effective on the socks and the plain trousers.

Study Task 1- Image, Idea, Context

Gustav Klimt-"The Kiss"
IMAGE- The image shows 2 people in a warm embrace. It uses paint and the characteristic gold leaf. I like the contrast of the swirls and and rectanconal boxes. It also includes the element of the flowers which is prominent within art nouveau.
IDEA- This piece is extremely elaborate. It is enthasising the theme of fragility which through art nouveau is shown as beauty. This is done through the body language and the size of the figures).
CONTEXT- I believe that this is a prime example of the art nouveau movement work. It perfectly illustrates the typical ornamentation and decoration associated with this movement creating something very striking.

I chose this illustration because I have always been interested in art nouveau and this was the first piece that caught my eye. I like the contrast between the abstract patterns and the beautiful and detailed pale skin. I also like how the background isn't plain but not overly patterned so therefore the people remain the focus.
