Study Task 10 - Presentation workshop

 Presentation workshop

I found this session really useful. Although I have done a lot of performing as a band, it is very different from public speaking.
It has taken me a while to get comfortable on stage singing, remembering lyrics, the order, not being scared of the blank audience faces and knowing what to do with my arms when moving around.
Speaking in public is totally different... it is to do with words and talking which informally I am good at but dyslexia can make reading, recall and articulation quite difficult as you have to think quickly.

Action Plan

-Try to use the Power of 3 to communicate points effectively
-Try to make it memorable, interesting and thoughtful
-Use a mind map as notes
-Look at the notes as prompts but not read or memorise
-Make eye contact with the audience (not too much, not too little- engage)
-Try to not say umm... in the practice in the session feedback told me that I was saying it without even realising
-Try not to move my feet around... stand confidently and still
-Don't be scared of silence and pauses
-Try to speak slowly and clearly
-Try not to fiddle with lanyard or pen whilst presenting
-Make sure that I am confident with what I am presenting and have practiced thoroughly
-Try not to get nervous and freak out
-Try to go first?
-Practice in the mirror and to other people before Presentation day! Doing is separate to thinking
