Study Task 4 - Copyright

COPYRIGHT

This copyright lecture really turned my world upside down. I did not realise how easy it was to infringe copyright!

1. Dated evidence is very important to protect yourself (eg. emails and photographs) - keep documentation - don't delete.
2. Don't need to register copyright in the UK... everything I make is my property!
3. Standard duration is 70 years AFTER THE CURATOR DIES or if anonymous from release...  can use old imagery and music without infringing copyright.
4. If work has been created in during working employment hours THEY own the copyright - never make work whilst at work!
5. AOI good at advising - once Iv'e left uni I should use AOI for legal advice and industry help.
6. Facebook owns your images - this was terrifying to learn but I will never put my artwork on Facebook now!
7. If I ever experience a bridge of copyright pursue it - there are places that can help, always fight for work!
8. There are lots of copyright free imagery - be careful when sourcing images but it's okay to use some.
9.  Infringement = a copy/derivative work
10.  The expression of an idea rather than the idea is protected by copyright
11. IP is; design, patent, trade marks and copyright and can be valued or sold - be careful in contracts because IP is very important (can be used for good eg. Peter Pan profits go to Great Almond Street)
